103 insurgents killed in raids

AT-KABUL: At least 103 armed Taliban fighters were killed and 28 others were wounded in different crackdowns within past 48 hours.

In a press release issued here, Ministry of Defense (MoD) said that Afghan National Army (ANA) in collaboration with Afghan National Police (ANP) and National Directorate of Security (NDS) has conducted clearance operations against insurgents in different areas of Parwan, Zabul, Kabul, Paktia, Ghazni, Uruzgan, Daikundi, Kandahar, Badghis, Herat, Kunduz, Sar-e-Pul, Baghlan, Faryab, Jawzjan and Helmand provinces. In these operations 73 rebels were eliminated and 25 others injured.

MoD said that four ANA soldiers embraced martyrdom in the operations against the insurgents.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Interior said that 30 Taliban fighters were killed and three others wounded in different joint operations in various districts of Nangarhar, Parwan, Baghlan, Kunduz, Faryab, Badakhshan, Sar-e-Pul, Uruzgan, Ghazni, Herat and Helmand provinces.

At least 14 insurgents were also arrested in the joint crackdowns and were handed over to the relevant authorities for interrogation, added the statement.

ANP and ANA also recovered huge cache of weapons in the operations, the ministries claimed.
