13 rebels killed, 18 wounded in Wardak clashes

At least 13 militants were killed and another 18 wounded during separate clashes with Afghan forces in central Maidan Wardak province, an official said on Thursday.

Governor’s spokesman Attaullah Khogyani said 12 rebels were killed and 18 injured in Afghan security forces’ ambushes in Dawran Khail, Biskamand valley, Noor Khail and Alishi areas of Chak district.

He said the militants had been planning to carry out an attack on the center of Chak district and some security posts there.

He said one Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier was also injured during the clashes.

Another militant was killed during a separate clash in Shash Gaw area of Syedabad district, Khogyani said, adding that one ANA soldier was also injured in the clash.

There was no word from the Taliban about the incidents, but the group’s spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed destroying an ANA tank and killing several onboard in a roadside bomb attack in Baqir Khail area of Syedabad district. (PAN)
