Over 1m registered voters: IEC

AT-KABUL: The Independent Election Commission figures show that more than one million people have registered to vote since the outset of the voter registerfor parliamentary and district councils elections began on April 14.

Chief of IEC Abdul Badei Sayyad said over one million eligible voters including men and women were registered to vote until Thursday evening. Voter registration has soared to new heights as more and more people were turning to registration sites, he said, asking all eligible Afghans to fully participate in the national campaign and have their part in critical decision-makings.

Voter registration has been stipulated in three phases; the first phase will go on until May 12 in provincial capitals, while the second phase is slated to begin in district centers from 14th to 28thMay, and the last phase scheduled for May 28 will continue until 12th June in villages and restive areas.
