22 killed and 50 wounded in twin blasts in Jalalabad

Kabul: A suicide bomber killed 22 and more than 50 left injured when exploded in front of Kabul Bank in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, early Saturday morning.

Brig. General Fazal Ahmed Sherzad, police chief in Nangrahar, said that suicide bombing took place on a motor cycle and killed 22 and left more than 50 other wounded including children; most of them were civilians.

Mohammad Ayub, an eye witness, said that many people gathered near the Bank checking point when the suicide bomber exploded. People rushed to the spot soon after from nearby markets. “Dozens of people are killed and wounded and the ambulances have not reached to the spot so far”, he added.

The incident took place in a busy market. Saturday is the first working day of the week in the country therefore there was more rush than normal days.

Ameerzada, Pajhwok video reporter, reported from the spot that 40 injured and killed people were shifted in rickshaws and personal cars to hospital.

Soon after, another bomb blasted in Dolki Baba shrine near department of information and culture.

Mehmood, a helper in the shrine, confirmed that two children wounded in the blast.

Ahmedzai Abidzai, governor Nangrahar spokesman, confirmed the blasts and could not share the detailed information.

Col. Lutfullah Zaryab, senior police officer, also confirmed the blasts and casualties.

An official in the provincial hospital told on condition of anonymity dozens of injured and killed were brought to hospital and most of the injured were in critical condition. He feared the death toll could be rise.

People were asked for blood donation through social media and face book since the injured needed blood. No one has accepted  responsibility so far. (PAN)
