38 Daesh fighters killed in Nangarhar

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: At least 38 Islamic State (IS) militants have been killed in airstrikes conducted by the Afghan Air Force in eastern Nangarhar province, said officials on Tuesday.

The 201st Selab Military Corps in a press statement said that Afghan Air Force launched airstrikes on hideouts of IS militants in two different areas of Chaparhar district of the province.

It added that the airstrikes hit hideouts of militants in Sulemankhel area of the district leaving 36 rebels loyal to Mullah Naeem and Habibzai dead. Two other fighters who wanted to escape the scene were also killed by security forces.

The strikes also destroyed 22 heavy weapons including eight rockets.

The statement further said that Afghan forces arrested a commander of militants in Torkham. The commander was identified as Gula Jan, who was active in Sarobi district of Kabul. “The commander was in Pakistan and he wanted to return to Afghanistan.

This comes just one day after Afghan Air Force killed 68 fighters of IS, also known as Daesh in Achin and Chaparhar district of Nangarhar.

In the province, Daesh militants have recently launched an anti-government radio station called “Voice of the Caliphate” to attract youth to join their ranks.
