6 civilians kidnapped in Ghazni

AT-KABUL: Unidentified armed men have abducted six civilians in Gilan district of Ghazni province, chief of the provincial council said on Saturday.

Head of the council Khaliqdad Akbari said that unknown armed men stopped a bus in Dalan desert of Gilan district on late Friday and abducted six civilians, including two women.

The gunmen took the kidnapped passengers to an unknown location, he said. He alleged that it was work of the Taliban insurgents who want to create fear among residents of Ghazni province. However, no group has claimed responsibility.

Kidnapping of passengers has become an order of the day, especially in Ghazni province. Commuters fear for their lives while travelling on Kabul-Kandahar highway. Despite having troops since 2001, the United States and its NATO partners failed to eliminate insurgents in Afghanistan. Nawa district of Ghazni is still under control of the Taliban. The multi-nation coalition force failed to retake the district from insurgents.
