Afghanistan eyes India’s support in empowering women

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Afghan First Lady Rula Ghani asked India for help to train Afghan women in technical and vocational fields.

Talking at an interactive session organized the other day by FICCI Ladies Organisation in New Delhi, the first lady said that Indian businesswomen could help Afghan female entrepreneur to get trained as women in Afghanistan direly need training but could not leave their country for India due to financial problems or restrictions imposed by their families.
She said that it was easy for women entrepreneur of India to visit her country for a weak to train businesswomen there.

“A woman is not respected unless she is a productive member of society and that means she has to produce something… no matter how much she toils at home, nobody is going to recognize that. If she learns to do some embroidery or other skills which she can use then she can earn the respect of others. I am here to try and explore opportunities,” she was quoted by IANS as saying. She said the national unity government is committed to take measures for serious development in order to make the country a better place to live in. Rula Ghani added that 90 percent of population needs help as the country is entering into post-conflict phase.
