Defense forces carry out major crackdowns; 9 militants killed in military raids

AT-KABUL: At least nine militants have been killed and 10 more wounded in several crackdown operations conducted by Afghan defense forces.

In a press release issued here, Ministry of Defense said that Afghan army in collaboration with the police and intelligence officers have carried out joint operations against insurgents in different areas of Nangarhar, Laghman, Paktika, Logar, Kandahar, Zabul, Herat, Farah, Takhar, Faryab, Nimroz and Helmand provinces.

Statement said that in these operations nine insurgents were killed and 10 others wounded.

Afghan forces arrested ten insurgents including six suspects during operation and handed over them to related judicial organs for further inquiry.

The joint Afghan operation was supported by airstrike.

During these operations in the past 24 hours, five Taliban fighters were killed and two others wounded in Imam Sahib district of Kunduz, three insurgents were killed and eight others wounded in Zawl district of Herat, one rebel was killed and four other wounded in Khanshin and Grishk district of Helmand, also three vehicle with some ammunition belonged to Taliban destroyed in the mentioned districts, six suspects arrested in Shewan district of Farah province.

In past 24 hours, 14 planed clearing operations, 15 Special Forces operations conducted in 11 provinces; also, Air forces conducted 43 aerial operations supporting Afghan National army including two strikes on enemy’s sanctuaries.

ANA discovered and confiscated weapons and ammunition in the operations as well.
