First ever conference held to empower women in agriculture

AT-KABUL: Ministry of Agriculture Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) on Saturday run the first ever press conference with the aim of boosting up women’s role in agriculture sector across the country.

“Running this conference aims at supporting female farmers and paving the ground for development of women’s activities in agriculture fields,” said Assadullah Zamir, Minister of Agriculture Irrigation and Livestock.

He said that empowerment of women in agriculture fields will lead toward decline of poverty in rural areas.

“Empowerment of women in agriculture sector is the top agenda for the MAIL,” he added.

He stated that ministry struggle to improve food protection as well as nutrition programs and lead the country toward economic development.

The ministry has approved the strategy of women presence in agriculture sector and established different green house and gardens inside the houses to promote women in agriculture fields, he claimed.

The ministry also has run different technical training program in different provinces for women, he asserted.

First Lady Bibi Gul said that empowerment of women will positively affect over reducing of violence against women.

She said that violence will be reduced, as much as women reach self-reliance.

Minister of Women’s Affairs Delbar Nazari said that it is required of government to establish an accountable draft for involvement and supporting of women in agriculture sector.

She said that as 70 percent of rural women involved in agriculture fields government must take in have a clear program to support them.

Training programs must be run for women for further achievement, he mentioned.

Meanwhile, female farmers complained of lack of training programs, financial resources and marketing facilities for their products in rural areas and asked the relevant organs to take measure and address mentioned issues.
