Flash floods leave 6 dead in Badakhshan

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: A fresh wave of flash floods in northeastern Badakhshan province left at least six people dead, official said on Sunday.

Director of Afghanistan Natural Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA), Syed Abdullah Humayun Dihqan, said that the floods damaged hundreds of homes in the Sei village of Koftab district of the province. “Nearly 130 homes, farm lands, and orchards had been destroyed in the floods,” he said.

Children and women were among the dead, he said. However, added that representatives of emergency response committee would soon provide assistance to the affected people including food stuff, potable water and other essentials to the flood-hit families in the area.

The transfer of essential food items by road to some areas would not be possible as the floods disconnected roads to the area.

The aid might be transferred to the district via Tajikistan as Kofab district of the province is bordering with the neighboring Tajikistan.

The last month’s floods had left seven people dead and washed away about hundred homes in Badakhshan.
