Karzai backs Trump’s stand for improved ties with Russia

US President-elect Donald Trump said on Twitter that “having a good relationship with Russia is a good thing, not a bad thing”

KUWAIT CITY: Improved relations between Russia and the United States will be good for peace and stability in Afghanistan, former Afghan President Hamid Karzai said. He added that he was supportive of “Donald Trump’s stand for improved relations with Russia.”

“Good for peace and stability in Afghanistan and the world,” he said on Twitter.

On Saturday, US President-elect Donald Trump said on Twitter that “having a good relationship with Russia is a good thing, not a bad thing.” According to Trump, “only ‘stupid’ people, or fools, would think that it is bad! We have enough problems around the world without yet another one.” “When I am President, Russia will respect us far more than they do now and both countries will, perhaps, work together to solve some of the many great and pressing problems and issues of the world,” Trump added.

US Secretary of State John Kerry said earlier that if the Trump administration “moves carefully and bilaterally” and “not unilaterally,” there could be a way “for a new path to be carved out” as far as relations with Russia are concerned. He also noted that in the recent years the US and Russia had been successfully cooperating in several fields. (TASS)
