Legislators worried of Daesh threats

AT-KABUL: The Wolesi Jirga of parliament on Saturday expressed deep concerns over the Daesh militants’ threats in Nangarhar, Kunar and Nooristan provinces, calling on the security officials to chalk out necessary plans for rooting out of the militants.

Lawmakers claimed that Daesh was a great security threat in the eastern provinces.

They said Daesh militants have subversive activities in Kunar, Nangarhar and Nooristan provinces where it creates security challenges for the locals.

Parliament speaker Abdul Raouf Ibrahimi called the presence of Daesh fighters a “great” challenge in the eastern provinces.

He asked the government to take measures for the elimination of the Daesh militants.

“So far, the Daesh activities in Kunar, Nangarhar and Nooristan provinces has turned into a challenge inside other security threats and local people are worried about such threats,” Ibrahimi addressed lawmakers.

Reports convey that in the past one month Afghan security forces imposed heavy casualties for Daesh militants in various district of Nangarhar and Kunar provinces.

Ministry of Defense had earlier said that the Daesh fighters sustained heavy casualties by public uprising and security forces operation in Nangarhar province.
