MoI launches operation to retake Ghormach

AT-KABUL: Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Tuesday said that operation has been launched to retake Ghormach district of Faryab province.

Spokesman to the ministry Seddiq Seddiqi said that additional policemen were sent to Faryab and operation has been launched to clear Ghormach district from the militants.

Speaking at a press conference here he said that joint operation is underway by police, army and other security agencies in the district.

Regarding missing policemen he said the ministry had failed to made contact with 18 cops. He said that it was too early to comment. Seddiqi said that both sides suffered casualties but there was no exact data.

He said that insurgents were very active in Nawzad, Mosa Qala and Nadali districts of southern Helmand province, adding that the security forces were fighting the militants. Currently, nine districts are under control of the Taliban in Helmand, Uruzgan, Ghazni and Faryab provinces.
