MoI seizes 86.172 tons of narcotics last week

AT-KABUL: The Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Wednesday said that National Interdiction Unit (NIU) and Crisis Response Unit (CRU) in cooperation with Afghan air forces conducted 34 counternarcotics operations across the country over the past one week and seized around 86.172 tons of narcotics.

Deputy Minister of Interior for Counternarcotics, Baz Mohammad Ahmadi, told newsmen that the ministry has had great success in thwarting drug trafficking attempts.

Speaking at the press conference, Ahmadi said that the NIU and CRU in cooperation with air forces conducted operations in Sayed Karam and Ahmad Abad districts of Paktika province and destroyed ten narcotics processing laboratories.

He said that Afghan forces recovered 76.70 ton hashish, 3500 kilogram opium, 38 kilogram Heroine and several suicide vests during the operation. He added that the drug dealers after a short resistance fled the area and police set the laboratories on fire.

He added that during another operation, Afghan police seized 3570 kilograms of unprocessed hashish. A number of equipment and explosives materials used in roadside bombs were also recovered in the operation.

“After receiving intelligence tip-off, Afghan forces conducted an operation in Azra district of Logar province. Security forces recovered around 1697 kilogram hashish during the operation,” Ahmadi said. He added that nine people were arrested in connection with the drugs.

Officials in the MoI said that they have also conducting operation against drug vendors in Kabul. Police have detained several drug vendors so far.
