Our troops fight to win in Afghanistan: Trump

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL:  The US President Donald Trump has hailed US troop’s efforts in Afghanistan, saying “our troops are fighting to win war in Afghanistan.”

This comes after announcement of US new strategy for Afghanistan and South Asia.

Speaking in a live video conference from Florida, Trump told military personnel serving in Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere that they were “very, very special people.”

Trump, in particular, called troops in Afghanistan “brave, incredible fighters” who had “turned it around” in the past three to four months.

“We opened it up; we said go ahead, we’re going to fight to win,” he said. “We’re not fighting anymore to just walk around, we are fighting to win.”

U.S. sent thousands more troops to Afghanistan and increased its air strikes to break stalemate with the Taliban, following the announcement of new strategy in August.

However, the new US strategy has not welcomed by some neighboring countries of Afghanistan, terming lack of regional consensus is missing. The National Unity Government welcomed the strategy, but former President Hamid Karzai and some other political officials criticized US new strategy for Afghanistan, accusing US for more focusing on war rather than peace and reconciliation efforts. One thing is very much clear that if war was the solution, today Afghanistan could be one of the peaceful states in the world as we witnessed four decades of war, but peace yet to come.
