Police seize 200kgs of opium in Kunduz, Takhar

AT-KABUL: Aimed reports about increase in opiates production, police have seized 200 kilograms of opium and detained three smugglers in Takhar and Kunduz provinces, sources said on Saturday.

Police chief of Kunduz, Brig. Gen. Mohammad Qasim Jangal Bagh, said that police had arrested two drug traffickers and recovered 140 kilograms of opium from their possession.

He said the traffickers belong to Farah and Helmand provinces and wanted to smuggle the opium to Kabul. However, he did not identify the detained peddlers.

Takhar police chief, Maj. Gen. Noor Mohammad Hakimi, told media that a drug peddler was detained and 80kg of opium was recovered.

He said that the drugs trafficker wanted to smuggle the opium to Taloqan from Badakhshan.

The police chief vowed to counter narcotics through crackdowns.

He said that during the last one year, Takhar police has arrested 16 drug peddlers and seized 157kg opium, 111kg of heroin and hundred kilograms of hashish.
