Taliban capture police training center in Baghlan

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The Taliban militants have took control of a police training center in Dand-i-Ghori district of southern Baghlan, said official on Saturday.

Member of Baghlan provincial council, Firozuddin Aimaq, told newsmen that militants have surrounded the area for the past three days and captured the police training center late on Friday. He said the rebels recovered 15 Kalashnikov guns, a machine gun and police vehicle from the center.

He added that at least 15 security personnel including a wounded local police who were trapped inside the base were evacuated with the help of local elders.

He mentioned that they asked authorities several times to deploy more forces and provide them weapons in a bid to repel Taliban’s attacks.

According to him, presence of militants poses serious threat to security of Baghlan-Mazar-i-Sharif Highway.

However, the deputy governor of Baghlan, Abdul Qadim Nizai, said the facility was evacuated tactically in a order to prevent casualties among security forces and civilians. He added that the decision was taken after a meeting between high ranking security officials from the province.

According to him, the security forces in the area were failed to continue military operation without air support and that they have shared the issue with the Defense Ministry.

Residents of the area said clashes between security forces and militants pushed the residents to not come out of their houses. They said that the situation was under control of the security forces but the residents still scared to step outside their residence.
