Taliban torch policemen’s houses in Helmand

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Taliban militants have burnt scores of policemen’s houses in Marja district of Helmand province, said local officials on Friday.

According to the provincial officials, the Taliban torched the houses of policemen in Marja, after the Taliban captured the Camp Bazar in the district a few days ago. However, the security forces retook some areas but the militants still control some areas close to the district.

A local policeman said the Taliban came and set their houses on fire including their gardens.

Hashim Alkozai, a senator, said that the residents of Marja district have joined the local police commander Mawollah in a bid to defend their areas from the Taliban insurgents.

Helmand is one of the insecure provinces in the country where Taliban still control some areas.

Police and soldiers have been engaged in combat with insurgents for more than a month in some parts of the province. Security forces have recaptured most parts of the province from the Taliban insurgents and killed scores of Taliban. However the Taliban come back and engage in battle against security forces.
