Uruzgan acting police chief killed in armed attack

AT-KABUL: Acting police chief for southern Uruzgan province, Gulab Khan, was shot dead by unknown gunmen last night, the spokesman for Governor said Sunday.

Dust Muhammad Nayab said the incident took place on mid Saturday night when Khan went out to patrol security posts and security situations between capital Trinkot and Dehrawod district.

He was on way to return back when was shot dead by gunmen near to Trinkot, capital city of Uruzgan.

He was being accompanied by his a guest and a colleague from the criminal investigation department at the time of incident.

The civilian was also killed, but officer, who is allegedly behind the incident, escaped unhurt, the spokesman said, adding the officer was under investigation.

Khan was newly appointed as acting police chief of the province after his predecessor, Matiullah Khan, was killed in Kabul a month back.
