Week-long power outage sparks protest in Nangarhar

AT-JALALABAD: Hundreds of residents of eastern Nangarhar province took to streets to protest against week-long power breakdown.

The protestors blocked Kabul-Jalalabad highway for several hours. They blamed the government for turning its blind eye to the issue.

According to sources, militants in Uzbin area have cut electricity transmission lines which led to the week-long long power breakdown.

The protestors urged the government to spare no efforts in fixing the lines. They warned to continue their protests and block the highway for longer time, if their demands were not met.

Officials in the province said that they have intensified their efforts to resolve the issue and fix the electricity transmission lines.  However, officials in Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) have said that their efforts to restore power to the province haven’t resulted in any positive result yet.
